Lane Zierten
Head Coach

Zierten (pronounced ZUR-ten) was named Cornell College’s head men’s lacrosse coach in July 2017.

Zierten has Cornell lacrosse on the rise, guiding the Rams into the Midwest Lacrosse Conference Tournament in 2022 and 2021, marking the program's first postseason appearances. The team has fielded 19 all-conference award winners during the two-year span. The Rams landed their first three USILA Scholar All-Americans in 2022.

The 2022 Rams finished 7-10 overall, equaling the 2018 and 2017 teams for the most wins in school history.

Zierten came to the Hilltop after two successful seasons as defensive coordinator/goalies coach at NAIA’s Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich.

Zierten was a three-year starting goalie and two-time team captain at Kean (Union, N.J.) University from 2010-13. He brings four years of coaching experience, the past two assisting a nationally-ranked Siena Heights squad.

Siena Heights’ 2017 squad went 7-3, ranked fourth nationally in goals allowed per game (7.8) and was also among the nation’s best with an .875 man-down percentage for the season. Zierten’s goalie, Tyler Hooper, earned second team all-America honors and twice was tabbed National Defensive Player of the Week.

In 2016, Zierten helped guide Siena Heights to the semifinals of the NAIA Tournament and a No. 4 final national ranking. That 13-7 team was crowned CCLA West Division champions and also appeared in the MCLA National Tournament.

Zierten coached four all-Americans and nine all-conference performers during his brief stint at Siena Heights. The honorees featured an MCLA First Team All-American defenseman in 2016.

As a player at Kean University, Zierten was part of a strong program that reached the conference championship game three of four years. During his 2013 senior season, the Cougars broke the school record for wins with a 15-3 mark.

Zierten received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Kean in 2014. He earned a master's in education from Goodwin University in May 2022.

Zierten was an assistant coach at New Jersey high schools Jackson Memorial (2013-14) and Ridge (2014-15). He coached two goalies committed to NCAA Division I programs.
